Halfway with number 2!

Picture to come...

How far along: 20 weeks...halfway done

Baby size:  10 inches head to heel, about the length of a banana

 Maternity clothes?  Mostly maternity

Sleep: Not bad, still getting used to not sleeping on my stomach or back though.

Best moment this week:  Long weekend with my boys, accepting an offer on our house, and securing an apartment and storage unit until our house is built.

Movement:  Here and there, waiting for it to get stronger.  I definitely felt the baby in my ribs though.

Food cravings:  Ice cream!

What I miss:  Not running out of breath so easily.

What I am looking forward to:  Gender!!  Find out tomorrow!

Milestones:  Making it through the first half

Pregnancy Symptoms:  My face is starting to break out, and I am definitely more moody (according to my wonderful husband).

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder...

Well, at least I hope it does!  I took an unintentional blog hiatus because I wanted to enjoy every bit of summer I had left with my little man!  He just amazes me daily, and I wanted to really take the time to slow down and make memories with my sweet baby boy (I still refuse to call him a toddler).  Then, school started again which meant I had to go back to work.  Getting back into the swing of things took some time so that prolonged the break.  However, when I saw so many others coming back from their own blog breaks I decided it was time I came back too!

Here is just a brief re-cap of the past couple months:

  • Mason is now 15 months old...where did the time go?!  He just went to the Dr. and he is 24 1/2 lbs.(60%)  and 33"(90%).  My little man has gotten so tall!  He has learned so much and is doing so many things that it really blows my mind!
He put on Daddy's shoes and stomped around in them!
Hiding in a corner reading...makes his English teacher momma ecstatic!
He was playing in the tupperware cabinet, and this is how he comes out of the kitchen.  I love it!
Helping Momma get ready for school.

How adorable are these big boy P.J.'s!?  A co-worker gave them to us, and I just love them!

  • We spent a lot of time outside. This kid LOVES being outside and screams hysterically when we bring him in!

        • I have the greatest husband ever!  He takes care of me and Mason, and we couldn't ask for anything more.
We had a dinner and movie date at home while our little man was sleeping.  It was fantastic!
He sent my back to school flowers!

*Disclaimer:  I started this post, then our computer crapped out, so this is the half of the post I was able to finish and get the pictures for.  Hopefully, I will post the other half soon as well as be back to blogging more frequently.

        Beach Trip!

We went on an impromptu beach trip with my parents a few weeks ago.  Nick and I didn't plan on doing anything big this summer since we recently booked our trip to London!  We were sitting with my parents and talking about needing a vacation so I suggested a beach house.  Everyone was in, but they were worried we wouldn't be able to find anything so late.  I started the hunt, and we had a fabulous house booked by that afternoon!  We stayed on Crystal Beach, and had a perfect relaxing vacation.  It was close to home, affordable, but perfect nonetheless!  Mason loved the beach!!  Here a few pictures from our trip...

        Heading to the beach!

        Playing with Grandad...

Before the trip was over, Mason started saying Grandad in context!

Mason made a friend at the beach house!  He loved this bird statue.

        Beach Baby!

We got this visor for 99 cents at Old Navy.  Nick said Mason looks like a frat boy!

        Playing on the deck.

Please ignore how gross I look...this was on our way out, headed home!

        Fourth of July!

Our fourth was spent at home and was completely perfect!  We had a bbq at our house for family and friends, and it was great because we got to see some wonderful people, eat, and hang out!

The firecracker cake I made!  It was a huge hit!

Mason at our neighborhood pool.  The perfect ending to our day!

And how cute is this boy in his festive attire!?  Nick's cousin made the shirt, and I think it is so adorable!

        Decisions, Decisions

The hardest decision I have had to make thus far as a parent was who would watch Mason when I went back to work.  We are not fortunate enough for me to stay home with him, we do not have a relative close by who doesn't work to watch him, so what do you do??

This was extremely hard for me.  I mean I never really went to daycare, my mom was always home with my little brother and I.  I also read a lot of studies showing that daycare is actually exceptionally beneficial for babies.  Regardless of how I was feeling, the decision had to be made because I was going back to work.

We learned that you can't wait around when it comes to really good daycares because they fill up fast.  Nick and I choose a couple to go and visit and speak with.  We liked them both but didn't LOVE either.  To be honest, I don't think I was going to LOVE any of them.  However, after much debate (i.e. stalling on my part) we made a decision!

Well, when we called to sign Mason up, they were full.  We were going to be put on the waitlist.  My heart sank.  Luckily, we had a good back up in another place we had visited, but I still wasn't thrilled about the situation.  We went ahead and got Mason registered for a daycare near Nick's work in the Galleria area.

A few days later we were pulling into the drive and saw our neighbors outside.  They are really nice, and they have the cutest little blonde, curly headed boy named Thomas who was 3 at the time.  In making conversation we asked if they had a good babysitter for future reference.  Holly, our neighbor, misunderstood and thought we meant daycare type person.  We didn't correct, took the name and number, and went inside baffled by what had just happened.

We figured it couldn't hurt to call and see what it was all about.  We trust our neighbors, Thomas is still alive and wonderful, and this may be an answer to a prayer we didn't realize we both had.  So, Nick called and Ida agreed to meet with us.  Funny thing, she called Holly after she talked to Nick to ask about us.  She wanted to make sure we were ok, just like we wanted to check her out.  We went to her house and met her and her husband Steve.  This was the most amazing experience ever!  I instantly knew Mason was in the right place.  At the time, Mason was only 6 weeks old, and she picked him up and he smiled and seemed so happy!  From that point on we have never looked back!

I am writing this because, while so many out there are luckily enough to be with there babies everyday, some of us are not.  Those of us that can't be there every minute of every day need people like Ida to love our babies, take care of them, and treat them like their own.  This is exactly what Ida and Steve do for my wonderful baby.  Mason is lucky enough to have an extra set of grandparents who love him as their own.  I am also writing this because Ida asked us to bring Mason over once he got his hair cut.  We went over there and as soon as we opened the door and Mason walked in he walked right to her arms up and gave her a hug!  She was so excited to see him, and the joy on both of their faces melted my heart.  Ida and Steve, better known to Mason as MoMo and PoPo, are the best people I could have ever asked for to take care of my baby.  Ida also has her grandson, Jacob, and even though he is 4, he adores Mason!  I love that Mason already seems to have an older brother to take care of him, play with him, and teach him things!  In home daycare has worked for us, and I highly suggest it to any parents that have to work and put their babies in some type of daycare.

If you made it through all of that, here are a few pictures!

He is learning Spanish, has an entire other family, and is spoiled like crazy.  Also, Mason comes home with dirt on his clothes, food in his hair, and most important of all a smile on his face!

        Month in review...

Not only is Mason now 5 months old, so much has happened that I haven't really had a chance to post!

For starters we went to the Texas State Fair this year...

This how our little man started the day...

        Fried Salsa!

Turned out to be really good!

Mason learned the full on pouty lip while we were there!
This has to be the cutest thing ever!

Mason and Daddy with their matching hats in front of Big Tex!

        The famous corn dogs!

Fried bubble gum...this was completely disgusting!
It was like eating and chewing amoxicillin.

The best thing...fried buffalo chicken in a flap jack!  So good!
Nick and I got one order of things and shared...we didn't want to overload our bodies with so much fried food.

How the little man ended our day!
        Halloween 2011:

Mason was a Spartan for Halloween!

Complete with sword, shield, arm cuffs, and sandals!

        He liked the sword!

His feet touch the floor in his walker!
        He loves it!

This is what happens when my older brother babysits...Nick and I went to see Guys and Dolls and this is what we get a text of!
